A connection check tests the present.
An HTTPS check attempts to connect securely to a hostname and load a page. Certificate validation helps establish whether the connection is trusted for that destination. Expiry, hostname mismatch and trust-chain problems can prevent it from succeeding.
The failure belongs in your website incident workflow. Check the exact hostname, recent hosting changes and the certificate being served publicly. A certificate installed for one hostname does not necessarily cover every subdomain you use.
An expiry reminder looks ahead.
A reminder service tracks the expiry date and notifies you before it arrives. This helps create time for renewal or investigation when automatic renewal has failed.

Automatic renewal still needs an owner.
Know which service issues and renews the certificate. Keep the account contact current, and review warnings after changes to DNS, hosting or domain routing. Make sure the person receiving a renewal warning knows which website and provider it concerns.
After a renewal or migration, check the public hostname. The certificate shown in a control panel is not, by itself, proof that every visitor receives the intended certificate.
Cover the website beyond HTTPS.
A valid certificate does not prove the page has the correct content or that the contact form completes. Treat the secure connection as one part of availability, then add assertions for the customer journey.
